TO AUSTRALIA’S DISCONTENTED.
Look up ! look up ! the sun is bright.
The earth is fresh and green ;
The beauty of a thousand flowers
May everywhere be seen.
We may have left a fairer land.
And flowers of softer hue ;
But wherefore close our eyes to these,
Are they not lovely too ?
To hearts in melody attuned.
All scenes, all lands are fair ;
Bright loveliness on every Bide,
And music everywhere !
The sunshine on the window-pane.
The rosebud on the stem ;
The murmur of the rushing creek
Are notes of joy to them ! – – – –
Ah ! sit not down with folded hands.
Ah ! dash away the tear ;
Waste not your strength in vain lament.
Be up and doing here
Take what the bounty of your God
So richly here has spread.
And learn a lesson from the flowers
On which you daily tread.
